Relative to Enrolled Agents’ Day.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST

HR 65, as introduced, Wallis.

WHEREAS, The enrolled agent profession was created in 1884 after the Civil War to represent citizens before the United States Department of the Treasury. Since that time, it has evolved with the creation of the federal income tax system into what we all are accustomed to today; and
WHEREAS, In 1972, a group of enrolled agents formed the founding chapter of an organization dedicated to enrolled agents in the City of Los Angeles. Within one year, it was the largest organization of enrolled agents in the country and was the basis for what would later become the National Association of Enrolled Agents. Five years later, the California Society of Enrolled Agents was formed; and
WHEREAS, Enrolled agents have been at the forefront of effective tax administration by working together with both federal and California tax agencies to help taxpayers comply with the tax codes. Enrolled agents assist taxpayers and business entities with the annual filing of their tax returns as well as more complex issues like audits, liens, levies, appeals, and collections. Enrolled agents have been an important asset to both California’s taxpayers and California’s tax agencies; and
WHEREAS, Their knowledge, professionalism, and integrity make the enrolled agent “America’s Tax Expert.” Enrolled agents should be recognized for the efforts they have put forth since 1884 in serving the taxpayers of California; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the Legislature of the State of California hereby recognizes February 15, 2024, as Enrolled Agents’ Day to commemorate the contributions professional enrolled agents have made for over 50 years to California taxpayers; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
