Relative to the Dr. Fareed Wade Nader Memorial Interchange.

ACR 142, Patterson. Dr. Fareed Wade Nader Memorial Interchange.
This measure would designate a specified interchange of State Highway Route 168 in the City of Clovis as the Dr. Fareed Wade Nader Memorial Interchange. The measure would request that the Department of Transportation determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering that cost, erect those signs.

WHEREAS, Dr. Fareed Wade Nader was born September 27, 1938, in the City of Miami, Arizona, to Wade and Helen Nader, who immigrated to the United States from Lebanon; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nader became an accomplished scholar, earning a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Arizona in 1961, a master’s degree from Arizona State University in 1963, and a PhD in Surveying and Mapping from Purdue University in 1973; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nader worked for the Federal Aviation Administration before beginning a 35-year teaching career; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nader taught surveying and photogrammetry at the University of Hawaii for 5 years before securing a position at California State University, Fresno (CSUF), where he taught geomatics engineering for 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nader’s passion for teaching and geomatics was evidenced by his numerous achievements, including being the second chairman of the CSUF Department of Geomatics and organizing and overseeing the 1984 International Surveying Teachers’ Conference held at CSUF; and
WHEREAS, He was the recipient of numerous teaching awards, including the Instructor of the Year Award in Surveying in 1991, the Dean’s Leadership Award for Outstanding Service to the School of Engineering and Computer Science in 1998, and the California Land Surveyors’ Association Honorary Land Surveyor’s License No. 2, and was voted Professor Emeritus for Geomatics Engineering in 2008; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nader was a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping, the American Society for Engineering Education, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the California Land Surveyors Association, the Geospatial Information and Technology Association, and the World Future Society; and
WHEREAS, He was a member of the Advisory Council for the School of Engineering and Computer Science at Purdue University, as well as a member of several honorary engineering societies, including Tau Beta Pi, Chi Epsilon, and Lambda Sigma; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nader’s design for the end of State Highway Route 168 in the City of Clovis will forever be a lasting gift to the northeast Clovis community; and
WHEREAS, His simple, efficient, and cost-effective engineering design kept the community intact by enabling all of its residents to keep their homes and still gain easy access to State Highway Route 168; and
WHEREAS, The Department of Transportation embraced his design as a welcome modification to one of its existing 30-year plans; and
WHEREAS, Outside of his professional life, Dr. Nader loved his family and his community; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nader and his wife Rosemarie were members of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in the City of Clovis, where Dr. Nader also served as a lecturer; and
WHEREAS, They enjoyed ballroom dancing and belonged to the Assembly Dance Club and the Los Amigos Dance Club, as well as providing music and taking pictures for weddings and other special events; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nader was known for his brilliant mind, kind and gentle manners, patience, quick wit, warm and ready smile, and dry sense of humor; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nader is survived by his wife of 37 years, Rosemarie Bezerra-Nader, his sister, Dr. Leila Johnson, his brother-in-law, John Cotton, numerous nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nader will be missed by all who knew him; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby designates the interchange of State Highway Route 168 at Fowler Avenue, postmile R8.042, in the City of Clovis as the Dr. Fareed Wade Nader Memorial Interchange; and be it further
Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is requested to determine the cost of appropriate signs, consistent with the signage requirements for the state highway system, showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources sufficient to cover the cost, to erect those signs; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the Department of Transportation and to the author for appropriate distribution.
