Existing law provides for the issuance and renewal of driver’s licenses and identification cards by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Existing law sets the expiration date of a driver’s license as the 5th birthday of the applicant following the date of the application for the license, and of an identification card as the 6th birthday of the applicant following the date of application for the identification card, except as specified.
This bill would require the department to notify the holder of a driver’s license or identification card of the date that the license or card is set to expire, at least 90 days before that expiration date, and would require the department to indicate the fact that the required notice was mailed by a notation in the department’s records.
