SB 598, as introduced, Harman. Department of Transportation: excess property.
Existing law provides that the Department of Transportation shall have full possession and control of all state highways and all property and rights in property acquired for state highway purposes. Existing law sets forth procedures for the department to dispose of excess property acquired for state highway purposes but no longer needed for those purposes.
This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to appoint a state agency to act in an oversight role to ensure that the department corrects its long history of mismanagement of its excess real property.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:


SECTION 1.

 It is the intent of the Legislature to appoint a state agency to act in an oversight role to ensure that the Department of Transportation corrects its long history of mismanagement of the department’s excess real property.
