An act to add Section 5058.7 to the Penal Code, relating to the state correctional system.

SB 404, as introduced, Florez. Corrections: inmate medical records.
Existing law generally regulates the state correctional system.
This bill would require the Director of Corrections to develop and implement a paperless intranet-based system for inmate health care records by January 1, 2007, and would require the Department of Information Technology to manage the project.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:


SECTION 1.

 Section 5058.7 is added to the Penal Code, to read:

5058.7.
 (a) The Director of Corrections shall develop and implement a paperless intranet-based system for inmate health care records not later than January 1, 2007.
(b) The Department of Information Technology shall have oversight responsibility for the project implementing the requirements in subdivision (a).
