Relative to a California Fire Museum.

ACR 126, Cannella. California Fire Museum.
This measure would designate the museum that is to be constructed in the City of Atwater and dedicated to the history of the firefighting profession and industry as a California Fire Museum.

WHEREAS, The California Firefighter’s Historical Society is a nonprofit, incorporated organization, dedicated to preserving the memory of past firefighters and firefighting equipment; and
WHEREAS, The California Firefighter’s Historical Society has tax-exempt status, and is led and supervised by a board of directors with statewide membership representing several firefighter organizations throughout the State of California; and
WHEREAS, The City of Atwater, located in Merced County, has been selected as the site for a fire museum being developed by the California Firefighter’s Historical Society; and
WHEREAS, Atwater is centrally located in California, therefore providing easy access to all Californians; and
WHEREAS, The museum is being funded by donations and grants; and
WHEREAS, The museum is endorsed by the Atwater City Council, the County of Merced Board of Supervisors, and the State Board of Fire Services; and
WHEREAS, Many California fire departments lack the storage capacity to retain old fire equipment and desire to donate their historical equipment to the fire museum in Atwater where equipment displays may be appreciated and enjoyed by many; and
WHEREAS, The Atwater Redevelopment Agency has sold property to the museum project; and
WHEREAS, The museum building will be over 30,000 square feet, with vast display areas for vehicles, small equipment, and hardware, and a recreation of old-time sleeping quarters to display personal effects; and
WHEREAS, The museum will complement the Castle Air Museum, the Steam Engine Museum east of Merced, and the State Gem Exhibition in Mariposa; and
WHEREAS, The museum ground breaking has already occurred and construction is scheduled to begin in 1995; and
WHEREAS, The museum will be a tribute to the distinguished history of the firefighting profession and industry; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That the Legislature designates the museum that is to be constructed in the City of Atwater and dedicated to the history of the firefighting profession and industry as a California Fire Museum.
