Relative to National County Government Month.

SR 93, Durazo.

WHEREAS, The nation’s 3,069 counties, serving more than 330 million Americans, provide essential services to create healthy, safe, and vibrant communities; and
WHEREAS, Counties fulfill a vast range of responsibilities and deliver services that touch nearly every aspect of our residents’ lives; and
WHEREAS, All counties take pride in our responsibility to protect and enhance the health, well-being, and safety of our residents in efficient and cost-effective ways; and
WHEREAS, The National Association of Counties, under the leadership of its President, Mary Jo McGuire, is highlighting county leadership and celebrating the role of county governments in connecting, inspiring, and leading as intergovernmental partners; and
WHEREAS, The role of county governments also includes a responsibility to inspire county residents to engage with their communities and to lead by highlighting our strength as intergovernmental partners; and
WHEREAS, Each year, since 1991, the National Association of Counties has encouraged counties across the country to elevate awareness of county responsibilities, programs, and services during this month; and
WHEREAS, California’s 58 counties are responsible for providing a wide array of critical services, including treating individuals living with mental illness, managing solid waste, ensuring accurate weights and measures, and maintaining local roads and Bridges; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That the month of April 2024 is proclaimed National County Government Month in California, and that all county officials, employees, schools, and residents are encouraged to participate in county government celebration activities; and be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
