An act to add Section 78.6 to the Military and Veterans Code, relating to veterans.


LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


AB 1908, as introduced, Schiavo. Department of Veterans Affairs: internal audits.
Existing law requires the secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs to conduct audits on the internal controls of the department, as specified.
This bill would require the department to, on or before July 1, 2025, and on or before July 1 each year thereafter, submit a report to the Governor, the Legislature, the Senate Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs, and the Assembly Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs. The bill would require the report to include, but not be limited to, a description of significant problems discovered by the department’s internal auditor and a summary of investigations and reviews conducted by the department during the previous year. The bill would additionally require the report to be made available to the public, as specified.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:


SECTION 1.

 Section 78.6 is added to the Military and Veterans Code, to read:

78.6.
 (a) The department shall, on or before July 1, 2025, and on or before July 1 each year thereafter, submit a report to the Governor, the Legislature, the Senate Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs, and the Assembly Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs. The report shall include, but not be limited to, a description of significant problems discovered by department’s internal auditor and a summary of investigations and reviews conducted by the department during the previous year. Upon submitting the report to the Governor, the Legislature, the Senate Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs, and the Assembly Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs, the report shall be made available to the public and posted on the office’s internet website.
(b) A report to be submitted pursuant to subdivision (a) shall be submitted in compliance with Section 9795 of the Government Code.
