An act to amend Section 53313 of, and to repeal Section 53315 of, the Education Code, relating to school curriculum.

AB 52, as amended, Berman. Computer science strategic implementation plan.
Existing law, until July 31, 2020, requires the Superintendent of Public Instruction to convene a computer science strategic implementation advisory panel with a specified membership to develop and submit recommendations for a computer science strategic implementation plan to the Superintendent, the State Board of Education, and the Legislature. Existing law requires the Superintendent to develop, and requires the state board to consider adopting, a computer science strategic implementation plan on or before July 15, 2019.
This bill would additionally require the computer science strategic implementation plan to be updated in unspecified intervals. every 7 years. The bill also would make these provisions apply indefinitely.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:


SECTION 1.

 Section 53313 of the Education Code is amended to read:

53313.
 (a) The Superintendent shall receive the recommendations submitted by the computer science strategic implementation advisory panel pursuant to Section 53311.
(b) (1) The Superintendent shall develop, and the state board shall consider adopting, a computer science strategic implementation plan on or before July 15, 2019.
(2) The computer science strategic implementation plan shall be updated every ____ seven years to remain relevant and reflect technological advancements.
(c) The Superintendent shall submit the computer science strategic implementation plan, if adopted by the state board, to the Legislature in conformance with Section 9795 of the Government Code on or before July 15, 2019.

SEC. 2.

 Section 53315 of the Education Code is repealed.
