WHEREAS, California is home to the largest Armenian-American population in the United States, and Armenians living in California have enriched our state through their leadership in business, agriculture, academia, government, and the arts; and
WHEREAS, The people of Armenia and the people of California continue to forge new ties through business and commerce that strengthen the connections between them; and
WHEREAS, The President of the Republic of Armenia, his Excellency Serj Sarkissian, will be visiting California on September 24 to 26, inclusive, 2011, to open new consular and trade offices in the cities of Los Angeles and San Jose to promote and further improve the economic relationship between California and Armenia; and
WHEREAS, His Excellency will also be participating in celebrations in Armenian-American communities to mark the 20th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That the Legislature extends a warm welcome on behalf of the people of California to his Excellency Serj Sarkissian, President of the Republic of Armenia, on the occasion of his visit to this state; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
