Fiscal Committee:
NO WHEREAS, The California Prayer Breakfast is inspired by, and patterned after, the National Prayer Breakfast, which is held each year in Washington, D.C., and was created as a result of President Eisenhower’s call from the White House one evening to his friend, Senator Frank Carlson of Kansas, in which he is believed to have said: “Frank, this is the loneliest house that I’ve ever been in. Would you come over and pray with me?”; and
WHEREAS, The prayer meetings continued, and soon, each week at the Nation’s Capitol, a group of legislators began to pray for the President and the country, asking for God’s blessings and the wisdom and strength to help this great nation; and
WHEREAS, Like the National Prayer Breakfast, the California Prayer Breakfast is sponsored and planned by a group of legislators, without regard to party affiliation, who meet weekly at 8:00 a.m. in an in-depth bible study in the Assembly Rules Committee Room at the State Capitol; and
WHEREAS, For 51 years, the California Legislators’ Fellowship Group has been meeting weekly for a time of fellowship in the reconciling spirit of prayer; and
WHEREAS, The California Legislators’ Fellowship Group is bipartisan, nondenominational, includes legislators of diverse spiritual backgrounds and experience, and welcomes all legislators who have a common interest in developing and nurturing their spiritual lives; and
WHEREAS, The California Prayer Breakfast has sought to encourage men and women throughout the State of California to recognize their spiritual privileges and responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, With the desire to deepen the spiritual life and moral fiber of the people of the state and become a spiritual leadership, as well as to be thankful for God’s blessings and to seek God’s spiritual wisdom and guidance; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That the Legislature takes great pleasure in recognizing that the California Prayer Breakfast is commemorating and celebrating its 51st year of existence at the State Capitol in 2012 with the California Prayer Breakfast being held on May 10, 2012, at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel; and be it further
