Governor's Message |

To the Members of the California State Senate: I am returning Senate Bill 1002 without my signature. The bill would require the Department of Health Care Services to seek federal permission to use an individual's CalFresh eligibility information to redetermine that same individual's eligibility for Medi-Cal; similarly, the bill would also require the Department of Social Services to seek federal permission to use an individual's Medi-Cal eligibility information to determine or redetermine eligibility for CalFresh. Each department is working with the appropriate controlling federal agency to use existing program eligibility information to accomplish the goals of the bill. I appreciate the support of the Legislature, but this bill is not necessary. Sincerely, Edmund G. Brown Jr. |
