An act to amend, repeal, and add Section 2256 of the Vehicle Code, relating to the Department of the California Highway Patrol.

Department of the California Highway Patrol: officers: age limit.
Existing law establishes the maximum age limit for a person who may qualify for examination to the position of entry level peace officer of the Department of the California Highway Patrol at 35 years of age.
This bill would, until January 1, 2027, raise that maximum age limit to 40 years.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:
SECTION 1.
Section 2256 of the Vehicle Code is amended to read:2256.
(a) Notwithstanding Section 18932 of the Government Code, the minimum age limit for appointment to the position of entry level peace officer of the Department of the California Highway Patrol shall be 21 years, and the maximum age limit for examination shall be 40 years.(b) Notwithstanding any other law,
the maximum age limit for appointment for an individual who qualifies for employment list retention pursuant to Section 19775.4 of the Government Code shall be 43 years of age.
(c) This section shall remain in effect only until January 1, 2027, and as of that date is repealed.
SEC. 2.
Section 2256 is added to the Vehicle Code, to read:2256.
(a) Notwithstanding Section 18932 of the Government Code, the minimum age limit for appointment to the position of entry level peace officer of the Department of the California Highway Patrol shall be 21 years, and the maximum age limit for examination shall be 35 years.(b) This section shall become operative on January 1, 2027.
