An act to add Section 412 to the Food and Agricultural Code, relating to animal welfare.

SB 675, as introduced, Wolk. Animal welfare: standards.
Existing law requires the Department of Food and Agriculture to promote and protect the agricultural industry of the state and requires the department to prevent the introduction and spread of injurious insect or animal pests, plant diseases, and noxious weeds.
This bill would require the department to develop standards for animal welfare.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:


SECTION 1.

 Section 412 is added to the Food and Agricultural Code, to read:

412.
 The department shall develop standards for animal welfare.
