The Medical Practice Act provides for the licensure and regulation of physicians and surgeons by the Medical Board of California. Existing law formerly provided for a Division of Medical Quality and a Division of Licensing within the board. Under existing law, any person who meets certain eligibility requirements, including, but not limited to, the requirement that the person is academically eminent, as defined, may apply for a special faculty permit that authorizes the holder to practice medicine, without a physician’s and surgeon’s certificate, within the medical school itself and certain affiliated institutions. Existing law sets forth requirements for the application for a special faculty permit.
This bill would delete outdated references to the Division of Licensing of the board in that provision.
