Assembly Bill
No. 1640
Introduced by Assembly Member Wendy Carrillo

February 17, 2023 |
An act to amend Section 1959 of add Section 101.17 to the Streets and Highways Code, relating to transportation.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
AB 1640, as amended, Wendy Carrillo.
Golf cart transportation plans. Transportation: general service signs: electric vehicle charging stations.
Existing law vests the Department of Transportation with full possession and control of all state highways and all property and rights in property acquired for state highway purposes. Existing law requires the department to adopt rules and regulations that allow the placement, near exits on freeways in rural areas, of information signs identifying specific roadside businesses, including a business offering electric vehicle charging facilities.
This bill would require the department to install electric vehicle charging station signage along each state highway for each electric vehicle charging station that meets the eligibility requirements for the department’s zero-emission general service sign program.
Existing law authorizes a city or county, by ordinance or resolution, to adopt a golf cart transportation plan. Existing law authorizes a city or county that adopts a golf cart transportation plan to acquire, by dedication, purchase, or condemnation, real property to establish golf cart lanes and establish a golf cart transportation plan, as provided.
This bill would make a nonsubstantive change to the latter provision.
