CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE— 2011–2012 REGULAR SESSION

Assembly Bill
No. 2431

Introduced  by  Assembly Member Carter

February 24, 2012

An act to amend Section 18032 of the Streets and Highways Code, relating to street lighting.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST

AB 2431, as introduced, Carter. Street lighting districts: zoning.
Existing law, the Street Lighting Act of 1919, provides for an alternative system for making improvements to street lighting systems, as defined. Existing law authorizes a city to consolidate its lighting systems for improvement in one proceeding, by zoning these systems so that systems of the same or similar general type are grouped together.
This bill would make nonsubstantive changes to these provisions.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION 1.

Section 18032 of the Streets and Highways Code is amended to read:

18032.
If there is more than one street lighting system in any city, any or all of such systems may be consolidated and improved under one proceeding. In such case, the consolidated system shall be zoned so that those systems of approximately the same general type are grouped together.
In any district wherein zones have been established under this part and where, subsequent to such establishment, improvements are made to portions of the lighting system in any zone which are of the same general type as in other existing zones within the district, the portion of the zone which that has been so improved may be transferred to a zone with a lighting system of the same general type pursuant to the same procedure of resolution, notice, and hearing as are applicable under this chapter for the formation of the district.
