CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE— 2007–2008 REGULAR SESSION

Assembly Bill
No. 2237

Introduced  by  Assembly Member Garrick

February 20, 2008

An act to amend Section 66010.5 of the Education Code, relating to postsecondary education.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST

AB 2237, as introduced, Garrick. Postsecondary educational institutions: mission.
The existing Donahoe Higher Education Act sets forth, among other things, the missions and functions of California’s public and independent segments of higher education and their respective institutions of higher education. The act requires that the mission of the public segments of higher education include a broad responsibility to the public interest and encourages these segments to support programs of public service.
This bill would make a technical, nonsubstantive change to this provision of law.
Vote: MAJORITY   Appropriation: NO   Fiscal Committee: NO   Local Program: NO

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION 1.

Section 66010.5 of the Education Code is amended to read:

66010.5.
The mission of the public segments of higher education shall also include a broad responsibility to the public interest, and independent segments of higher education are encouraged to assume a broad responsibility to the public interest. As part of this responsibility, the public and independent segments are encouraged to support programs of public service public service programs and to involve faculty and students in these programs.
