Relative to war in the Middle East Iraq.


LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


HR 21, as amended, Nunez.

WHEREAS, Californians, like all Americans, share the hope of

WHEREAS, California is home to thousands of men and women in the United States Armed Forces and in the California National Guard many of whom are now serving in the Middle East, engaged, at great risk of personal injury and death, in hostilities with the armed forces of Iraq; and
WHEREAS, The families and employers of California reservists called to active duty are also making significant sacrifices; and
WHEREAS, Californians have the hope of a peaceful world, free of war; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, That the Assembly proclaims its support for our troops and our fervent hope that hostilities in Iraq end as soon as possible, and that America’s servicemen and servicewomen return home quickly, safely, and uninjured; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Assembly of the State of California urges the President of the United States of America to pursue all efforts to ensure that any American captured during these hostilities is treated in accordance with the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
a peaceful world, free of war; and WHEREAS, California is home to thousands of men and women now stationed in the Middle East while serving in the United States Armed Forces and in the California National Guard; andWHEREAS, These American servicemen and servicewomen are risking their lives; andWHEREAS, In his reign of terror and oppression as dictator of Iraq, Saddam Hussein has unleashed deadly nerve gas on his own people, and killed thousands of Iraqis for attempting to exercise the political freedoms that by natural right belong to all people in all nations; andWHEREAS, The families and employers of California reservists called to active duty are also making significant sacrifices; now, therefore, be itResolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the Assembly proclaims its fervent hope that hostilities in Iraq are ended as soon as possible; and be it furtherResolved, That the Assembly of the State of California proclaims its fervent hope that when America's servicemen and servicewomen return home they return home safe and uninjured; and be it furtherResolved, That the Assembly of the State of California extends sympathy to the United States Marines, based in Camp Pendleton and elsewhere, as well as noncombatants, who lost their lives during the current hostilities; and be it furtherResolved, That the Assembly of the State of California urges the President of the United States of America to continue to provide full funding for the health care needs, family support needs, and all other attendant needs of America's veterans; and be it furtherResolved, That the Assembly of the State of California urges the President of the United States of America to pursue all efforts to ensure that any man or woman captured during these hostilities is treated in accordance with the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War; and be it furtherResolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly shall transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
