ACR 90, as amended, Robert Pacheco. Boy Scouts’ 85th anniversary.
This measure would congratulate the Boy Scouts of America on the 85th anniversary of the granting of its federal charter by Congress.
Fiscal Committee: NO  

WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America have existed in this country since 1910; and
WHEREAS, The year 2001 marks the 85th anniversary of the federal charter granted to the Boy Scouts by the Congress of the United States of America on June 15, 1916; and
WHEREAS, It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America to offer young people responsible fun and adventure while developing the ethical quality of their characters, so vital for training youth in citizenship, leadership, and service; and
WHEREAS, Scouting makes a direct and positive impact on our communities by teaching the principles of the American social, economic, and governmental systems, along with the values that encourage leadership; and
WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America have instilled these values in millions of young men, including people such as Neil Armstrong, Gerald Ford, John F. Kennedy, Hank Aaron, Steven Spielberg, Bill Bradley, Ross Perot, Bill Gates, James Lovell, Nolan Ryan, and Steve Young; and
WHEREAS, It should be the continuing goal of all youth-related organizations to promote the values of equality and equal opportunity; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, congratulates the Boy Scouts of America on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of their congressional charter, and recognizes the valuable contributions made by the Boy Scouts of America in training our young people for citizenship, service, and leadership; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the Boy Scouts of America, and to the author’s office for appropriate distribution.
