LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST

SB 1605, as introduced, Poochigian. Supplemental local law enforcement funding.
Existing law establishes in each county treasury a Supplemental Law Enforcement Services Fund (SLESF), sets forth provisions governing the administration of these funds, and declares the intent of the Legislature to appropriate at least $100,000,000 in the 1998–99 and 1999–2000 fiscal years for allocation to counties and other entities for specified law enforcement purposes. These provisions are to become inoperative on July 1, 2000, and to be repealed as of January 1, 2001.
This bill would appropriate annually $250,000,000 from the General Fund to the Controller to fund the supplemental local law enforcement funding provisions, as specified, and would extend the operation of those provisions indefinitely.
