Relative to Native American Indian Week.

WHEREAS, Native American tribal members have served as responsible stewards of their lands; and
WHEREAS, Native American tribal members have preserved their traditions while becoming productive members of American society; and
WHEREAS, Native American tribal members are working to eliminate welfare on their reservations, to fund desperately needed public services, such as fire protection and health clinics, and to support worthy community causes; and
WHEREAS, Native American tribal members continue to exhibit concern for their tribal communities, and have shown a willingness to aid surrounding tribal communities by sponsoring needed public services and supporting worthy charitable causes; and
WHEREAS, Native American tribal members strongly support the basic American values of individual responsibility, private enterprise, and equal opportunity; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That it hereby recognizes the week of April 4 to April 10, 1999, inclusive, as Native American Indian Week in California, and encourages all Californians to salute the achievements of Native Americans; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
