Existing law requires each county to provide aid and health care to indigent persons who are not supported by other means, with these programs being commonly referred to as county general assistance programs.
This bill would limit eligibility for benefits under a county general assistance program to a total of 60 months.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:
SECTION 1.
Section 17112 is added to the Welfare and Institutions Code, to read:
17112.
No individual shall be eligible for aid under the general assistance program for more than a cumulative total of 60 months. Any month commencing on or after January 1, 2000, for which aid is provided under the general assistance program by any county in the state shall be included in the cumulative total of months in determining the eligibility of an applicant or recipient of aid.
