Trade barriers: exportation of tree fruit.
This measure would respectfully request the President of the United States to use any means necessary to encourage the government of Mexico to remove any trade barriers for the export of tree fruit to Mexico.

WHEREAS, The North American Free Trade Agreement has removed trade barriers between the United States and Mexico; and
WHEREAS, Mexico’s Department of Agriculture and Water Resources continues to put up trade barriers to the importation of U.S.-grown tree fruits into Mexico; and
WHEREAS, These barriers may result in export revenues to Mexico being lower than before the North American Free Trade Agreement; and
WHEREAS, A decrease in export revenues would significantly affect growers in California where much of the tree fruit export originates; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly and Senate of the State of California, jointly, That the Legislature of the State of California respectfully requests the President of the United States to use any means necessary to encourage the government of Mexico to remove any trade barriers for the export of tree fruit to Mexico; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the President and Vice President of the United States, the United States Ambassador to Mexico, the President of Mexico, Mexico’s Ambassador to the United States, and to each Senator and Representative from California in the Congress of the United States.
