The existing County Employees Retirement Law of 1937, provides for the payment to surviving spouses various optional settlements and death benefits.

1/3%, certain optional settlement and death benefit allowances payable to surviving spouses, that are currently limited to 60% of the members’ retirement allowance and to decrease, by 20%, certain postretirement death benefits that continue the amount of the members’ retirement allowance and the preretirement industrial death benefit of 50% of the members’ final compensation. This bill would apply only to Los Angeles County.
