ACR 118, Speier. California Small Business Week.
This measure would request the Governor to proclaim the week of May 10, 1992, through May 16, 1992, California Small Business Week, in conjunction with national Small Business Week.

WHEREAS, The President of the United States, by proclamation, will designate the week of May 10, 1992, through May 16, 1992, as Small Business Week in recognition of the outstanding contributions of the owners of small businesses of this nation; and the President will request the Governor to proclaim the week of May 10, 1992, through May 16, 1992, as California Small Business Week; and
WHEREAS, Ninety-five percent of new jobs in California are generated by small business firms; and
WHEREAS, Twenty-seven percent of the fastest growing small public companies and 13 percent of the fastest growing small private companies are in California; and
WHEREAS, Small businesses create more new jobs than any other sector of our economy, hiring and training almost 9 out of 10 of new private sector workers; and
WHEREAS, Small businesses are the state’s largest employer, employing approximately 10 million people; and
WHEREAS, More than two million of our nations’ 17 million small businesses are located in California and employ 55 percent of the state’s workers; and
WHEREAS, California’s small businesses have a vital role in expanding our state’s trade relationships with countries of the Pacific Rim; and
WHEREAS, The economy has slowed after nearly eight years of expansion jeopardizing the future of small business; and
WHEREAS, Small business people possess the dedication and entrepreneurial spirit to develop and market new technologies, thereby bringing more capital into the business market and further strengthening our economy; and
WHEREAS, The innovation, diversity, competitive strength, job generation, and quality of life which small businesses bring to our economy are vital elements of our state’s long-term economic health; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That the Governor is hereby requested, in conjunction with the national designation thereof, to proclaim the week of May 10, 1992 through May 16, 1992, as California Small Business Week, in special recognition of the contributions which the owners of small businesses have made, and will continue to make, in our state; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit a copy of this resolution to the Governor of this state.
