Relative to Menopause Awareness Month.


LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


HR 83, as introduced, Aguiar-Curry.

WHEREAS, Menopause is a natural and normal period of time when a woman’s hormone levels start to change; and
WHEREAS, Millions of women in the United States experience menopause each year; and
WHEREAS, Women in the United States enter the menopausal transition with little guidance on what to expect before, during, and after their reproductive years; and
WHEREAS, Menopausal symptoms have the potential to be intense, impacting daily routines and overall well-being, and can last for several years; and
WHEREAS, Women of color are more likely to experience premature menopause, leading to a 40-percent higher risk of developing coronary heart disease over their lifetime; and
WHEREAS, Nearly 11 percent of women 45 to 60 years of age, inclusive, missed work due to symptoms of menopause; and
WHEREAS, The annual cost for those missed work days is $1.8 billion and that cost does not account for reduced work hours, employment loss, or early retirement; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the Assembly supports improving the health and well-being of those experiencing menopause; and be it further
Resolved, That the Assembly recognizes the effects of menopause on women, acknowledging its impact on both individual well-being and broader societal dynamics; and be it further
Resolved, That the Assembly acknowledges the women of color who are disproportionately affected and works to rectify health outcomes that address their unique needs and challenges; and be it further
Resolved, That the Assembly advocates for providing women with access to relevant health information and services to encourage well-being as they age, ensuring a high quality of life before, during, and after menopause; and be it further
Resolved, That the Assembly encourages efforts to provide women with tools and treatment to improve quality of life and health outcomes for those affected by menopause, and be it further
Resolved, That the Assembly recognizes the month of October 2024 as Menopause Awareness Month; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the Secretary of the Senate, to the State Department of Health Care Services, to the Governor, to the President of the United States, and to the author for appropriate distribution.
