An act relating to courts.

SB 848, as introduced, Umberg. 2022 Court Efficiency Act.
The California Constitution vests the judicial power of the state in the Supreme Court, courts of appeal, and superior courts. Existing law authorizes a court to make rules for its own government and the government of its officers, as specified. Existing law encourages the Judicial Council to adopt rules to provide for uniformity in rules and procedures throughout all courts in the state.
This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact the 2022 Court Efficiency Act, as specified.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:


SECTION 1.

 It is the intent of the Legislature to enact the 2022 Court Efficiency Act. It is the intent of the Legislature that the act will create reforms to our civil court system to encourage the use of technology, reduce litigation costs, shorten trial length, improve trial pace, and improve access to justice.
