Governor's Veto Message |

To the Members of the California State Assembly: I am returning Assembly Bill 2596 without my signature. This bill would require the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development, or GO-Biz, to lead the preparation of a California Economic Development Strategic Plan. Since its inception, GO-Biz has expanded direct foreign investment, created opportunities for small businesses, identified incentives for growth, and helped resolve barriers for businesses navigating the government. These successes are due, in part, to the ability of GO-Biz to nimbly respond to rapidly changing economic factors including unpredictable federal decisions, natural disasters and more. I don't believe an ongoing costly study and report will provide any additional benefit to these efforts. Sincerely, Edmund G. Brown Jr. |
