Relative to Father-Daughter Day.

SCR 87, as introduced, Dahle. Father-Daughter Day.
This measure would declare October 8, 2023, as Father-Daughter Day and would encourage fathers with daughters in California to take time to celebrate, cherish, and connect with each other.

WHEREAS, We honor mothers and fathers individually with Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, respectively; and
WHEREAS, A father’s bond with his son is often acknowledged and celebrated; and
WHEREAS, Male role models are important not only in a boy’s life, but also in a girl’s life; and
WHEREAS, American singer-songwriter Smokey Robinson has recognized, “a positive connection between a man and his daughter can have a tremendous impact on a young girl’s life and play a big role in her development into a strong, confident woman who knows her value”; and
WHEREAS, Young girls depend on their fathers for security and emotional support. A father shows his daughter what a good, healthy relationship with a man is like. If a father is loving, gentle, strong, and valiant, his daughter will relate to and look for those qualities in men; and
WHEREAS, Healthy communication between fathers and daughters starts with committing to never responding in anger; and
WHEREAS, A father sets the bar for the relationships his children will have with others. The way a father treats those around him directly influences the way his children will treat others; and
WHEREAS, Daughters model their relationships with others based on their father’s character and relationship with themselves; and
WHEREAS, Involved fathers improve the overall well-being of and increase the likelihood of future success for their children; and
WHEREAS, The second Sunday in October marks Father-Daughter Day to promote the development of young women through their father; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring, That the Legislature recognizes October 8, 2023, as Father-Daughter Day and encourages fathers with daughters in California to take time to celebrate, cherish, and connect with one another; and be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
