AB 831, as introduced, Stephanie Nguyen.
Housing discrimination.
Existing law, the California Fair Employment and Housing Act, generally prohibits housing discrimination with respect to the personal characteristics of race, color, religion, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, marital status, national origin, ancestry, familial status, source of income, disability, or genetic information.
This bill would state that it is the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation regarding housing discrimination, including increasing enforcement pathways to address source of income discrimination against recipients of federal housing assistance vouchers.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:
SECTION 1.
It is the intent of the Legislature to enact subsequent legislation regarding housing discrimination that would do both of the following:(a) Increase the availability of housing to households who have experienced housing loss as a result of one-time negative economic impact by prohibiting discrimination against tenants with one prior eviction due to nonpayment of rent.
(b) Increase enforcement pathways to address housing discrimination violations, including those related to source of income discrimination against recipients of federal housing assistance vouchers issued under Section 8 of the United States Housing Act of 1937 (42 U.S.C. Sec.
1437f).
