(a) Commencing with the 2029–30 academic year, the California Community Colleges, the California State University, independent institutions of higher education, as defined in Section 66010, and private postsecondary educational institutions, as defined in Section 94858, shall not increase tuition by an amount greater than the percentage increase in the United States Consumer Price Index for the preceding calendar year, as determined by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics.(b) Commencing with the 2029–30 academic year, and as a condition for receiving state funds for student financial assistance, the College of the Law, San Francisco and the University of California shall not increase tuition by an amount greater than the percentage increase in the United States Consumer Price Index for the preceding calendar year, as determined by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics.
