SB-787 California State University Program in Medical Education.(2021-2022)



As Amends the Law Today


SECTION 1.

 Article 7.2 (commencing with Section 89262) is added to Chapter 2 of Part 55 of Division 8 of Title 3 of the Education Code, to read:

Article  7.2. Program in Medical Education (PRIME)
89262.
 This article shall be known, and may be cited, as the California State University Program in Medical Education.
89262.1.
 The California State University Program in Medical Education (PRIME) is hereby established. Under this program, notwithstanding Section 66010.4, in order to meet specific medical education needs in California and to address access to medical care in underserved, disadvantaged areas, the California State University shall establish Doctor of Medicine degree programs at California State University campuses selected by the trustees. One participating campus shall be the California State University, Fresno. The Doctor of Medicine degree programs established at the California State University pursuant to this article are not exempt from any required review and approval processes.
89262.2.
 The sum of fifteen thousand dollars $15,000 is hereby appropriated from the General Fund to the California State University for the implementation and administration of this article. The California State University shall seek private donations or other nonstate funds to finance any additional startup costs.
89262.3.
 On or before January 1, 2023, the trustees shall submit a report, pursuant to Section 9795 of the Government Code, to the Legislature on its implementation and administration of this article.
