AB-1254 Health care coverage: mobile stroke units.(2021-2022)



As Amends the Law Today


SECTION 1.

 Section 1371.57 is added to the Health and Safety Code, immediately following Section 1371.55, to read:

1371.57.
 (a) A health care service plan issued, amended, or renewed on or after January 1, 2022, that provides coverage for emergency health care services shall include coverage for services provided by a mobile stroke unit.
(b) For purposes of this section, “mobile stroke unit” means a state-recognized mobile unit facility that serves as a hybrid emergency response ambulance and operates under the direction of a local emergency services agency to provide emergency treatment, imaging, and transportation for patients suffering from a stroke.

SEC. 2.

 Section 10126.67 is added to the Insurance Code, immediately following Section 10126.65, to read:

10126.67.
  (a) A health insurance policy issued, amended, or renewed on or after January 1, 2022, that provides coverage for emergency health care services shall include coverage for services performed by a mobile stroke unit.
(b) For purposes of this section, “mobile stroke unit” means a state-recognized mobile unit facility that serves as a hybrid emergency response ambulance and operates under the direction of a local emergency services agency to provide emergency treatment, imaging, and transportation for patients suffering from a stroke.
SEC. 3.
 No reimbursement is required by this act pursuant to Section 6 of Article XIII B of the California Constitution because the only costs that may be incurred by a local agency or school district will be incurred because this act creates a new crime or infraction, eliminates a crime or infraction, or changes the penalty for a crime or infraction, within the meaning of Section 17556 of the Government Code, or changes the definition of a crime within the meaning of Section 6 of Article XIII B of the California Constitution.
