AB-2048 Alzheimer’s disease: patient informational tool.(2019-2020)



As Amends the Law Today


SECTION 1.

 Section 9104 is added to the Welfare and Institutions Code, to read:

9104.
 (a) On or before July 1, 2021, the department shall develop and make available to the public, in print and on the department’s internet website, an informational tool to assist individuals and their caregivers in communicating with health care providers after receiving a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.
(b) The department shall base the tool created pursuant to this section on the 2003 publication “Partnering With Your Doctor: A Guide for Persons with Memory Problems and Their Care Partners,” jointly developed by the Alzheimer’s Association and the former State Department of Health Services. In developing the tool required by this section, the department shall focus on both of the following objectives:
(1) Updating the information provided in the 2003 publication to reflect and respond to changes that have occurred in the intervening years.
(2) Ensuring that the needs of an increasingly diverse aging population within California are met.
(c) Contingent on the availability of funding, the department shall evaluate the effectiveness of the tool at least once every three years.
(d) The department shall implement this section using existing resources.
