AB-101 City of Long Beach: tide and submerged lands.(2001-2002)



As Amends the Law Today


SECTION 1.
 The Legislature finds and declares the following:
(a) There is a severe energy crisis within the State of California and natural gas production and consumption are directly affected by this crisis.
(b) There exist upon tide and submerged lands within the City of Long Beach, granted to the city by the state upon certain trusts and conditions pursuant to Chapter 676 of the Statutes of 1911, Chapter 102 of the Statutes of 1925, and Chapter 158 of the Statutes of 1935, reserves of oil and natural gas being produced by the City of Long Beach. There may be additional reserves of natural gas on those tide and submerged lands, which have yet to be explored and produced by the City of Long Beach.
SEC. 2.
 Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the City of Long Beach may retain and utilize, without cost to the city, all of the natural gas produced from the granted tide and submerged lands within its jurisdiction, for the purposes of producing electrical energy, providing natural gas services to the public at the most competitive price possible, and improving tidelands, coastal, and wetlands environments.
