CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE—
2019–2020 REGULAR SESSION
Senate Bill
No. 1281
Introduced by Senator Roth
|
February 21, 2020 |
An act to add Section 49452.6 to the Education Code, relating to pupil health.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
SB 1281, as introduced, Roth.
Pupil health: type 1 diabetes information: parent notification.
Existing law requires a school district to provide a type 2 diabetes information sheet developed by the State Department of Education to the parent or guardian of an incoming pupil in grade 7, as specified.
This bill would require the department to develop type 1 diabetes informational materials for the parents and guardians of pupils, as specified. The bill would require, on and after January 1, 2022, school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools to make those materials available to the parent or guardian of a pupil while the pupil is enrolled in kindergarten or when the pupil is first enrolled in elementary school, and while the pupil is enrolled in grade 7. By imposing additional requirements on school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools, the bill would impose a state-mandated local program.
The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that reimbursement.
This bill would provide that, if the Commission on State Mandates determines that the bill contains costs mandated by the state, reimbursement for those costs shall be made pursuant to the statutory provisions noted above.
