CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE— 2019–2020 REGULAR SESSION

Senate Bill
No. 857

Introduced by Senator Bates

January 14, 2020

An act to amend Section 41200 of the Public Resources Code, relating to solid waste.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST

SB 857, as introduced, Bates. Solid waste: integrated waste management plans: composting component.
Existing law, the California Integrated Waste Management Act of 1989, administered by the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery, establishes an integrated waste management program. The act requires each city to submit to the county in which the city is located a source reduction and recycling element containing specified components, including a composting component.
This bill would make a nonsubstantive change to language concerning implementation of the composting component.
Vote: MAJORITY   Appropriation: NO   Fiscal Committee: NO   Local Program: NO

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION 1.

Section 41200 of the Public Resources Code is amended to read:

41200.
The city composting component shall include a program and implementation schedule which that shows the methods by which the city will, in combination with the source reduction and recycling components, reduce a sufficient amount of solid waste disposed of by the city to comply with the diversion requirements of Section 41780.
