An act relating to testing of sexual assault DNA evidence.


LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


AB 643, as introduced, Chen. Criminal justice: testing of sexual assault evidence.
Existing law requires law enforcement agencies to report information regarding sexual assault DNA evidence to the Department of Justice within specified time limits including whether a suspect DNA profile was generated and, if evidence was not submitted for testing, the reason why it was not submitted.
This bill would express the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation that addresses any backlog of untested sexual assault DNA evidence submitted to the Department of Justice.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:


SECTION 1.

 It is the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation that addresses any backlog of untested sexual assault DNA evidence submitted to the Department of Justice.
