An act to add Section 89012 to the Education Code, relating to the California State University.

AB 394, as amended, Medina. California State University: assessment and course placement of admitted students.
Existing law establishes the California State University, under the administration of the Trustees of the California State University, as one of the public postsecondary institutions of higher education in the state.
This bill would require, as a condition of receipt of state funding for the Graduation Initiative 2025, the trustees to approve, by require the California State University to implement, on or before August 1, 2018, a pilot program where a minimum of 10 campuses use multiple additional measures for the assessment and course placement of admitted students, as specified.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:


SECTION 1.

 Section 89012 is added to the Education Code, to read:

89012.
 As a condition of receipt of state funding for the Graduation Initiative 2025, by On or before August 1, 2018, the trustees shall approve a pilot program where a minimum of 10 campuses use multiple California State University shall implement additional measures for the assessment and course placement of admitted students. The multiple measures approach shall place include, but not be limited to, placing significant weight on high school transcript data in the assessment of recent California high school graduates, on community college transcript data in the assessment of community college transfer students, and on those transcripts in the subsequent assignment of these students to English and mathematics coursework.
