[ Approved by Governor  October 14, 2007. Filed with Secretary of State  October 14, 2007. ]

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST

AB 808, Parra. Vehicles: licensure application or renewal: required declaration.
Existing law requires that as a condition of obtaining or renewing a driver’s license the applicant sign certain declarations contained in the application.
This bill, the Steve Ambriz Act, would require, on or after July 1, 2008, as a condition of obtaining or renewing a driver’s license, the applicant sign a declaration regarding driving under the influence, and the potential charges that could result from killing a person as a result of driving under the influence. The bill would require the declaration to be printed in the same language as the driver’s license application or renewal notice.
Vote: MAJORITY   Appropriation: NO   Fiscal Committee: YES   Local Program: NO

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION 1.

This section shall be known and may be cited as the Steve Ambriz Act.

SEC. 2.

Therefore, it is extremely dangerous to human life to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or both. If I drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or both, and as a result, a person is killed, I can be charged with murder.”
(b) On all application forms for driver’s licenses or driver’s license renewal notices printed by the department, in English or a language other than English, the department shall include the declaration in the same language as the application or renewal notice.
