Existing law provides for the establishment of various programs to promote tourism for the stated purpose of improving the economic well-being of the state.
This measure would proclaim 1994 to be State Tourism Year.

WHEREAS, The State of California has a $54 billion a year tourism industry; and
WHEREAS, The tourism industry is present in all areas of the state, including: Yosemite Park, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Lake Tahoe, the scenic Pacific coastline, the Mojave Desert, the Central Valley, the Sierra Nevada mountain range, Catalina Island, and San Diego; and
WHEREAS, The tourism industry in California supports local businesses and cities throughout the state, increasing revenues for vital services, bringing a needed flow of money into the state, and provides revenue to a wide variety of California businesses; and
WHEREAS, The state’s tourism industry provides significant employment opportunities to the state’s residents and to its supportive industries; and
WHEREAS, The Legislature should make every effort to encourage the promotion of California tourism and the attraction of tourists to the state; and
WHEREAS, The promotion of state tourism may help to provide additional revenue to California businesses and cities; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby proclaims the year of 1994 to be State Tourism Year, welcoming and encouraging tourism to the state and supporting local efforts promoting this measure; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the Governor of the State of California and the author for appropriate distribution.
