AB-835 Safe recreational water use: standards: harmful algal blooms.(2019-2020)

As Amends the Law Today


 Article 2.1 (commencing with Section 115917) is added to Chapter 5 of Part 10 of Division 104 of the Health and Safety Code, to read:

Article  2.1. Recreational Water Standards for Harmful Algal Blooms
 (a) The State Water Resources Control Board shall, by regulation and in consultation with the State Department of Public Health, the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, local health officers, California Native American tribes, and the public, establish, maintain, and amend as necessary, minimum standards for the safety of freshwater recreational bodies as related to harmful algal blooms, as it determines are reasonably necessary for the protection of the public health and safety.
(b) For purposes of this section, the term “California Native American tribes” shall have the same meaning as in Section 21073 of the Public Resources Code.
