AB-1682 State government: Department of Justice: Children’s Justice Fund.(2017-2018)


 Section 12532 is added to the Government Code, to read:

 (a) The Legislature finds and declares that the Attorney General’s Bureau of Children’s Justice was created to protect the rights of children through investigation and litigation on matters impacting the lives of California’s young people.
(b) There is hereby created in the State Treasury the Children’s Justice Fund.
(c) Direct payments made to the State of California as penalties recovered by the Attorney General from an action or settlement of a claim brought by the Attorney General’s Bureau of Children’s Justice shall be deposited into the Children’s Justice Fund.
(d) Moneys in the Children’s Justice Fund, upon appropriation by the Legislature, shall be used by the Bureau of Children’s Justice within the Department of Justice’s Public Rights Division to support investigations and prosecutions of laws intended to protect the rights and well-being of children, including implementation of judgments obtained from those prosecutions or investigations and other activities that are in furtherance of the bureau’s mission.
