AB-1204 Public health: emergency prescriptions.(2017-2018)

As Amends the Law Today

Chapter 13 (commencing with Section 1799.300) is added to Division 2.5 of the Health and Safety Code, to read:

CHAPTER  13. Emergency Prescriptions
For purposes of this chapter, a “life-saving medication” includes, but is not limited to, medication necessary to save the life of a patient whose life is at risk due to illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and other illnesses in which the failure to administer the medication can result in the death of the patient. A life-saving medication does not include medications that are primarily prescribed to relieve pain.
Notwithstanding any other law, a licensed physician may prescribe a one-month supply of a life-saving medication to a patient to be stored for the use of that patient in case of a natural disaster or other emergency.
